Icy wonderland

Wednesday 24 August, Ankervig to Hekla Havn (Danmark O)

Another gorgeous day, with blue skies, bright sunshine, black snowcapped mountains and white icebergs floating all around us. Our last leg on the circumnavigation of Milne Land leads us through a narrow fjord, Fonfjord, with glaciers pouring out into the sea at every possible occasion. The largest one is an astonishing 4nm (about 6km) wide!

Our anchorage that night is in a nice sheltered bay and we do our usual anchored stern to with shore lines. Since Pamela and John went in the water for a swim at Bjorne Oer in the drysuit, there has been some talk about going for a swim - with OR without the drysuit...Mark decides that today is the day, with a nice shallow-ish sheltered bay and plenty of sunshine. Before we know it, he has his trunks on and jumps from the spreaders. COLD!! He feels good though and as soon as he is back in the dinghy and then on board, he jumps again...BRRRR!
Luke decides that he really needs a wash too and comes up in his surf shorts, climbs on the railing and jumps in as well! Cold as it is, he stays in the dinghy and asks for his shampoo, taking the chance to wash his hair. Gotta look good!
Kudoos guys, there's been lots of talk about it, but you two did it!
Although I am tempted with the sunshine and the sheltered bay, I decide not to go in. If I do it, I want at least one ice cube in the picture! Maybe tomorrow in ITQ...

The rest of the evening is a quiet one, with Hildur pulling up next to us, another nice dinner and a movie evening down below.
